Monthly Reflection: Justice & Seven of Wands (Rev)

Deck: Rebel Witches Tarot

October Reflection: Justice

When the card Justice appears in a reading, things are off-kilter in some way. Most obviously, it can be because an injustice has occurred, and for many, there may have been a very clear and obvious ‘wrongdoing’ in the month of October. However, as a collective reading, this may not have been the case for all. For some, the injustice is simply the imbalance of things, and Justice appears with her cool-headed clarity, revealing to us exactly what is wrong.

Justice is one of two cards in the tarot deck that speak to the concept of balance, but where Temperance refers us to an additive approach (what can we incorporate into our lives to bring balance?) Justice on the other hand asks us what we can remove.

Something has been brought to your attention, whether through a direct injustice, or simply through irrefutable clarity. A situation has shown you what it really is, and in October, we were invited to consider, what are we going to do about it? Because you can’t throw more at this problem and think that it’s going to change, or magically go away. Something’s gotta go.

In these circumstances, emotions are going to come up. After all, we’re only human. But Justice calls us to keep our head and to find a way to attach emotionally, so that we can make decisions that are going to be carefully considered, and ultimately, most beneficial.

Because above all else, what Justice is asking for is advocacy. So, the question is, what stand have you taken? Where have you stood up for yourself, or on behalf of others? In practice, this looks like boundary-setting, it looks like removing yourself from a situation entirely, it looks like making sure needs get met, and people don’t get forgotten.

We’ve refined the skill of, not only advocacy for others, but self-advocacy, during the month of October - and that leaves us better equipped moving forward, because standing up for ourselves in the context of Justice recognises that we deserve to be treated fairly. That acknowledgement is a giant step forward for our self-worth - and truly what is more important than that?

November Outlook: Seven of Wands (rev)

Typically, the Seven of Wands is a card defending our position. In most versions of the card, we see several wands pointed at a single figure, they too with their wand outstretched in front of them. This makes a lot of sense in the context of October’s card. And yet, this is in the reverse!

The thing is, defensiveness, justifications, explanations, more often than not, we do things things when we’re trying to placate people, when we’re trying to get them to understand our viewpoint and why we’re doing (or not doing) something. Sure, we shouldn’t be doing anything we want with a middle finger up to the world, not giving a damn what anyone thinks. However, we can stand our ground without trying to convince people to validate our decision.

Essentially, this is a message about truly standing our ground. It’s saying “no” without feeling the need to rattle off a list of 20,000 reasons why you couldn’t possibly do something. It’s asking someone for help without your entire backstory on how you tried to do it without them first. It’s doing something that you want to do, because you want to do it, and when someone challenges you, not feeling the need to launch into your TED Talk on why this is important to you.

Because the people that get it, get it. And the people that don’t? Well… does it matter?

The thing is, if we can truly embody everything we learned in the month of October, we don’t need the Seven of Wands energy of defending our position. We can stand in our own inner knowing.

We don’t need anyone else to validate our experience or our feelings.

We don’t need permission.

We know our worth. We know our own values. Let that be your compass.

And perhaps, by the end of November, we can advocate for ourselves without needing to armour up and do battle.

That sounds a lot more peaceful, don’t you think?

Much love,

N x

One seemingly ordinary day back in 2016, while I was working in a small suburban bar, a random acquaintance handed me a tarot deck through a moment of sheer synchronicity and changed my life forever. Being a tarot reader wasn’t something I thought would be in the cards for me (pun unintended, hehe) yet here I am, years later, these cards having completely altered the course of my life.

Since that moment, I have done hundreds of readings for other people. Friends and family, complete strangers, sceptics and non-sceptics, in-person and across the internet, in the UK and across the world. I never cease to be astounded by the wisdom contained in those 78 cards. These cards are so much more than a predictive tool. These cards light the way forward for us to create our own future, help us as we navigate life’s ups and downs. This is what I strive to do for you when doing your reading.
