Monthly Reflection: Knight of Wands & Two of Swords

April Reflection - Knight of Wands

We began April with the Ace of Pentacles, which was a great sign after some tough cards over the previous few months. And so I’m pleased to see the Knight of Wands as April comes to a close, a card of drive and momentum, carried forward by great excitement, enthusiasm and passion.

We’ve taken the seed of potential and opportunity given to us in the Ace of Pentacles and we are running forward with them. And it feels good. You are on fire, my friend!

What this card suggests is that April was a month of progress, where we actually dove in headfirst and did something that tangibly moved us forward in a meaningful way. There is sense of clarity here akin to someone sitting down with inspiration after suffering writer’s block. Things feel like they are flowing again, perhaps after a period of struggle, a stalemate or feeling stuck in some way.

It’s an exciting and hopeful moment, which I’m so glad to see. And if this is resonating - I’m sopleased for you.

As we enter into the month of May, I encourage you to remember this feeling. Imprint it in your brain, your senses, your very being. You are an unstoppable force. You are empowered. And you love the journey you’re on. And this energy is going to carry us through the month ahead.

May Outlook - Two of Swords

Just when we feel like we’re gaining momentum, something threatens to stand in our way again… ourselves. The Two of Swords indicates we have a choice to make this month, maybe even multiple choices. It feels intimidating, overwhelming perhaps.

The Knight of Wands and the Two of Swords are kind of at odds with each other. The Knight wants to just get stuck in and have fun doing something. The Knight wants to go play!! But the Two of Swords is standing there with a clipboard, holding up a sensible hand and asking the Knight to answer a question or two before he does.

The problem is, we’re not a playful, irresponsible child. And so, as much as we want to go play, the Two of Swords does raise some valid points…

The situation compels us to pause and consider the options we’re presented with. The Swords cards rule the mind, so in terms of decision making, this is about choices that are made with the head. This is weighing up the pros and cons, evaluating the right choice on paper. What makes the most sense? What is the best option? What is the right way to go here? It’s very cerebral.

And yes, your inner Knight of Wands fell asleep before you even got to the end of that paragraph, because to the Knight, it all sounds so boring!

Perhaps, your inner Knight of Wands might have a point…

The Two of Swords, while about choice, can often signal a sense of indecision. It’s the epitome of analysis paralysis. “Do I go this way, or that way?” But as we’ve just talked about earlier in this reading, the Knight of Wands energy has you picking up momentum. Are the decisions in front of you really worth losing that momentum over?

That doesn’t mean to say you shouldn’t weigh up the choice, or choices, in front of you. Rather, it’s about making sure we take them in the right spirit. Some decisions are bigger than others. Not all decisions need to be considered with the same weight.

And so, as we enter into the month of May, here are three questions we can keep in mind, when presented with choices, to help us figure out how much weight they should be considered with.

  • How impactful is this choice to your life? Is it something major and life-changing (like a house move or career change)?

  • How permanent is the decision, once made? Is it possible to backtrack, further down the line, and if so, how big are the consequences for doing so?

  • How equal are the choices presented to you? Would you be happy with both, and this is more about trying to choose the ‘best’ one? Likewise, sometimes, choices can be equally unfavourable!

If we look at the images in these two cards, when combined, they tell us a story. The Knight of Wands is plowing through those Two Swords that appeared to block her path.

And that can be you this month.

With all your power, enthusiasm, passion, drive and momentum, you can plow through anything that stands in your way, because these things are within your own power. And by putting things in perspective, you might find that seeming barriers to your momentum are, in fact, not substantial enough to stop you in your tracks at all.

Wishing you a beautiful month ahead, my friend.

One seemingly ordinary day back in 2016, while I was working in a small suburban bar, a random acquaintance handed me a tarot deck through a moment of sheer synchronicity and changed my life forever. Being a tarot reader wasn’t something I thought would be in the cards for me (pun unintended, hehe) yet here I am, years later, these cards having completely altered the course of my life.

Since that moment, I have done hundreds of readings for other people. Friends and family, complete strangers, sceptics and non-sceptics, in-person and across the internet, in the UK and across the world. I never cease to be astounded by the wisdom contained in those 78 cards. These cards are so much more than a predictive tool. These cards light the way forward for us to create our own future, help us as we navigate life’s ups and downs. This is what I strive to do for you when doing your reading.
